3D printing application in automation: tailor-made 3D printed component trays with great savings potential.

By switching from conventional milling production to 3D printing, Multec GmbH, together with a customer, was able to achieve significant cost savings!

These trays are designed to first coat components with hot glue.

A plastic disc is then placed on each component. The tray is then transported to a heating chamber where the hot glue hardens at temperatures of approx. 120°C. The components are loaded and unloaded using robots, so the accuracy of the trays is very important.
The customer requires over 30 variants of the trays, so cost reduction was a major consideration.
Therefore, a phase of optimization for printing time and thus printing costs followed the functional tests.
The trays have now been successfully implemented in over 30 variants, proving their durability and efficiency in demanding environments.
The customer was able to reduce his costs by around 50% by switching production to 3D printing and having production done in Multec's printer farm.

Cost savings of approx. 50%

This project shows how customized 3D printing solutions can significantly improve industrial applications by making them more cost-effective and resilient.
